Welcome to my website!   This web site is dedicated to my education, publications and all I have done so far as chemist; of course this is not gonna be all!! As young, enthusiastic and ambitious scientist as I am, this journey is far from being over! As I will grow, so will this site in time. Please note that what you see now is what I would call a beta version of my site. Improvements in its layout and code are constantly being made. The same applies to its content.

My profile: a general overview My commitment to science, particularly chemistry, started back in the year 1994 as student at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Palermo, Italy. In 1999, I was selected as a participant for a Socrates student exchange program across Europe: final destination, The Netherlands where I joined the Coordination and Bioinorganic Chemistry group of Prof. J. Reedijk at Leiden University. This fascinating period of my life ended up with a thesis titled New Iron and manganese Complexes as Models for the Active Site of Redox Enzimes.
After graduation, I came back to The Netherlands as Ph.D. student in the Chemical Engineering and Chemistry group (former Coating Technology group), Eindhoven University of Technology, under the supervision of Prof. R. van der Linde and Dr. W. Ming in a joint program supervised by Dr. J. van Haveren and Dr. E. Oostveen (former employer) from the Agrotechnology & Food Innovations, Wageningen, The Netherlands.
After successfully obtaining my doctoral degree in the year 2005 with the thesis The Combination of Ascorbic Acid Derivatives/Iron Salts as catalyst for the Oxidative Drying of Alkyd-based Paint: a Biomimetic Approach, I was appointed as post-doc at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology in the group of Prof. S. van der Zwaag aiming at developing and studying Self-healing Barrier Coatings. This research will also be supervised by Dr. H. Fischer from TNO industries.
